Hi-density foam for monitor isolation?

Any ideas about the kind of foam used for insulating monitors? What are the differences between the stuff used in, say, Mo-Pads and available rigid foams like Sintra or Gatorfoam?

These materials seem to tranmit sound easily; seems counter-intuitive that they would be effective isolators.

How does rubber (or isoprene as it seems to be called these days) compare?

Thanks,

C

When trying to isolate monitors, you're looking for something that will physically not transfer vibrations. Passing sound is purely a matter of density and gas flow resistivity.

Think of it this way, drywall is a great barrier to stop sound but would make a horrible isolator for monitors.

i read somewhere on the internets about people using rubber erasers. that's what i did. make sure you get real rubber.

i got papermate pink pearls, $1.50/3-pack. thew a 3-pack under each monitor. they seem to work pretty good.
