cheap fabric?

I had no idea fabric was so expensive. I just made 16 2' x 4' traps and now I need fabric to put on the face of them and hold in the mineral wool. But I'm going to need like 100 sq ft and basically I'm looking at 100-200 depending on how nice the fabric is. am I looking in the wrong places? would chicken wire and spaced wood planks across the front be better?

Wal-Mart is about a buck a yard for their sale pile. It usually has the perfect stuff for these panels (thin, simple, neutral). Also remember that the roll is a yard tall and folded in half, so it's really 6 feet wide! One dollar buys you 18 sq. ft. of fabric!

What about thin curtains or bedsheets? Thrift store?

I'm bumping this thread instead of starting a new one. But I am in the same boat, I am going to be doing approx 100 sq ft if paneling and need the cheapest possible solution that will still look professional.

I have used the G of M stuff and I am not too impressed. I actually thought it was a pain in the butt to use when building a panel. I would potentially like something a bit thinner to yield better, corner folds. I do work in a studio and the fabric on their panels is extremely ideal and nothing like the G of M stuff, but they didn't build the studio so they dont know what type of fabric it is.

Im not looking for a bargain bin or burlap bag but something a company sells that I can get a large quantity on demand, if needed.

thanks for your help

Can't be much help, but I am surprised about the GOM. It is the industry standard. Yea it can be a bit tricky to work with but it is fire rated and pretty acoustically transparent.

I know it is "standard", but I found it to be very fluffy and hard to work with. The one great thing about it is the fire ******ant aspect, which would be nice to find in a cheaper product.
I just think G of M is just too pricey for the amount of fabric you get.

any other suggestions would be great.

I'm late to the party and didn't hear what 'G of M' is...
Anyway, I've had the best luck with automotive fabric. Picked up whole bolts at A-1 Foam and Fabric. It was reasonably priced and is indestructible! I've had it on walls and ceilings for 20 years and looks the same as the day I put it up.

How about burlap? I truly am not a fan of the look of it, but it does work pretty darn well.

Loomcraft Fabrics, Burlington, NC

Loomcraft Textiles - Automotive and Decorative Fabrics
Products:
IFR Automotive Fabric
Comments:
They do not generally carry a certificate of compliance for their automotive fabrics, but you can ask for the manager, Ken, and he will get you one. BE SURE TO SPECIFY WHAT YOU NEED THE CERTIFICATE TO ADDRESS!
Colors are very limited to muted medium to dark greys and browns, but their prices are killer; about 2/3 the cost of GOM.

(Their warehouse in Burlington is a probably 100,000 sq ft of the automotive fabrics)

I use this thin Dekomolton for non reachable areas like celling all the time, and the thicker for the areas with high traffic.
works pretty well, and has firerating B1

cheers
