Bass Trap In Corner Above Monitors

I'm having serious problems at 150 and 300hz. I was thinking of putting my homemade bass trap above my monitors. Ceiling height is is low, maybe around 7'.
Only problem is the trap is 6' and the back it 5/8" plywood (heavy). So I need to figure out a way to get it to stay on the ceiling. (was thinking of having it at a 30 deg. angle)

Would this help me with these damn freq?

a cloud over your mixing spot helps alot, but you should trap the corners as well.

my cloud is hanging down from those rods that you can buy to say hang a furnace from a ceiling

if the attic is above you as it is for me, run those rods through the ceiling and bolt them to 2x4s running across the rafters.

if your spot doesn't have an attic above it, i'm sure someone else will have a good idea

You really should not have solid plywood on the back. Any way you can cut out some of the back and space it off the ceiling a few inches?

well, these are traps taht i made myself, i think from the diagrams of someone on gs... but they're made ofr stand alone, either on the corners or flush with the wall..

i currently have a piece of fiberglass 2x4, with a thin piece of wood as a backing.. theres a hole cut out, so it really acts as a frame.. i have that at about 30 deg... the top touches the ceiling and the back is nailed to the wall, about 8" from the ceiling.

should it be parallel with the floor?

Glenn is correct. You really don't want much of any back on a panel if at all possible - especially for anything that's not going to be mounted flat on a wall. If it's spaced off or straddling a corner, you're wasting potential benefit.

so you're saying not to use a plywood backing.. how would it stand on its own? Essentially then, it would be just a piece of fiberglass with cloth around it for aesthetics?

Most people just put a frame around them.
