What do you think about this foam?

Hi
,
I found this company when I was googeling for acoustic foam in germany:

http://www.aixfoam.de/cgi-bin/shop/s...1&FUNC_ID=8002

I checked the diagrams and I think its good stuff? What do you think? Please give me your feedback about this stuff if you have some time to check it!

Thanks Osten P.

I can't get the link to work either. In the mean time I'll say that good foam is okay and works well if it's thick enough. This assumes it's real acoustic foam, not packing foam. You can get a sense of what absorption amounts to expect in my Acoustics FAQ. See the section Rigid Fiberglass to see what good absorption is for different material thicknesses.

reactivating the topic:

DId anyone here have a chance to test these foams by aixfoam?
(new link: Absorption Products Sound proofing acoustic foam acoustic panels)
The prices seem very low compared to similar offers, i'd like to know a bit more about the on-site performance.

I don't see any lab numbers.

they are there. I clicked on a product and the lab test data was on the page. And example is here. There was nothing to write to the OP. The test data is on the product page.

...and since i have no clue whatsoever what these lab numbers imply, could anyone please elaborate on whether their performance seems to be good or not? thanks

Well, one thing I like to see (personally) are the normal incidence plots that result in acoustic absorption tests per ASTM E1050-98. It is a very standardized test, quite repeatable, and usually (provided care is taken) reproducible as well. These are very handy data to have.

Note that you will see the data often presented piece-wise. That is, two separate absorption curves versus frequency. This is because the test uses two different diameter tubes (a large and a small, around 4 and 1 inches diameter, respectively if memory serves), which is required to ensure that plane waves (not evanescent waves) are used to compute the incident and reflected signals.

I would also look for data per ASTM C-423 (absorption via decay). This differs from ASTM E-1050 in a number of ways, but the biggest differences between the two methods are that in '423, the test takes place in a reverberant chamber, and thus, the incidence (unlike ASTM E1050-98) is random, that is, at multiple angles. Also, '423 relies upon the decay time in each 1:3 octave band (as compared to a bare room) to compute the absorption.

I'm a data-driven guy...so I would seek out data, and use that to make an informed decision.
