Hi, anyone here know where i might be able to find the right type of fibre glass and fabric to cover to make effective bass traps here in Switzerland?
Thanx!

Many manufacturers are listed in the section Rigid Fiberglass in my Acoustics FAQ. Then you can Google those to find local distributors.

Also google mineral wool and rock wool. Might be easier to find over in your parts. For fabric see if you can get Guildford of Maine. It really is the best acoustic fabric around.

Thanks alot for your help...i think i've found something which could be quite adequate but i'm not sure which thickness i should buy.
By the way i'm going to be treating the wall behind my speakers first which is 2.5 m high by 5 m wide ca.

Hi,

When I lived in Basel in 2005/6 I made some basstraps with wood from the OBI and some rockwool bought online.

Thread is here:

I have done a couple of searched for 'steinwolle' on google.ch but can't find the exact name of the company but they were somewhere in the Bern area.
I am sorry I can't be more useful than this- but you can definitely get it in Switzerland (ie and not pay import duties).

It actually was that expensive- I just wish I had noted the name of the company.
Maybe you could do some googling of your own- let me know if you find it- I will still be in and out of Basel and it will be helpful to know.

Edilcentro Wullschleger - Servizi e Prodotti Professionali per l'edilizia

The page is in Italian as i live in Ticino.

Hi, i will do everything by myself as i'm on a budget but i'm also very keen on doing it by myself. I still have to find the right kind of fabric to cover them though so if anyone has any ideas where i might find something i would be very grateful.

Hi

Maybe they have some materials you need:

Coop Bau & Hobby

There are several stores in Ticino, did you already visit them?

I'd highly recommend the many 'Home Depot'-type stores in Southern Germany, many of them close to the Swiss border. When I renovated the apartement I now live in, most everything (bathroom, paint, wood floors, etc) came from the German 'Baumärkten' like 'Bauhaus'.

Unlike OBI, which sucks big time, Bauhaus and some other stores have really knowledgable staff and the prices are way cheaper than Switzerland, you'll even get the German VAT back.

Hi Andi, thanks for the tip but i live right in the south of Switzerland, in Ticino, so it would be a little too far for me to travel. I might take a look in Italy to see if there is something similar.

Sorry, that's too far obviously but then again you have more sunshine and live closer to Italian food down there......
