placing panels above the mixing spot

I'm about to suspend two 2' X 4' broadband panels above the mixing spot, I have two questions;

-is two panels enough ( that's a 4X4 square), should I have three so that they go beyond the distance between the speakers?

- Where exactly should they be placed?

I'm waiting for a reply to go about it,

Thank you

Jean

The more area you cover the broader your RFZ (reflection free zone) will be. To find the spot you would sit in your mix spot and have someone run a mirror around the ceiling. Where you can see the monitors is where you want to place the panels.

Actually,

I can't do the mirror thing now, I'm on my own in the studio and have no small mirror..
is there a calculation like the one Ethan explains on his website for the side panels that can work for the ceiling?

What you use for the side walls would be the same for the ceiling, but if you want to be sure then cover from where you sit to where the monitors are. That will broaden the sweet spot and you will know for sure that you are hitting it. Most of the time it should not take more then 3 or so panels that are 2'x4'
