| Ceiling Bass Trap Hey there acoustic experts, I'm having a bit of trouble with a strong boost at 130Hz in my mix position. I've come to the conclusion that is due to my ceiling as that is approximately the half wave length frequency. I've got many broadband bass traps but hanging something from my ceiling in a rental is going to be interesting. First question is, is 60mm(2.4 inches) bass trap gonna be thick enough? Secondly, FRK is mentioned regularly to keep high frequencies, is "glad wrap"(sandwich wrap) ok for this. The reason being is, that I don't want to use a wooden frame, I was just gonna wrap 2 1foot x 2foot rockwool panels together and hang them with wire. Cheers for any help. |

| I don't think I would put any glue on the front of he panel. As FRK is great to use but make sure those panels are not in the early reflection of the mix area. Glenn |

| Lives for gear | 60mm/2.4" is a bit thin if you want bass absorption. You can help things by spacing it down from the ceiling a bit, a good rule of thumb is to space it the same distance away from the ceiling as the material is thick, ie, 60mm absorption spaced 60mm down from the ceiling. You'd get better results doubling up those panels, 120mm thick absorbers, preferably spaced 120mm from the ceiling. Not sure how much ceiling height is an issue for you. I also agree you won't want to use the FRK or plastic above the mix position or above a prime recording spot.

| Thanks guys. As always you're superb. I was trying to avoid using timber but that looks unlikely. Maybe I can just wrap my material tight. Many thanks again. |
