I heard you can make good bass traps by using pipe insulation, sealing it air tight by using some acoustic board or plywood on either end, sealing the split down the center and putting them in the corners of your room. The pipe insulation is the plastic stuff on the oustide with the foam insulation coating the inner part of the tube.

Pipe insulation of a proper density can work OK for an outer shell. If you want them to work down into the bottom end well, plan on at least a 16" diameter and fill with insulation. You may find that a few sheets of 703 is more cost effective Bryan
