Resonance is a propensity to vibrate at a specific frequency. A soda bottle will resonate at some pitch if you blow across the opening. A guitar string will resonate if you pluck it. A rectangular room has multiple resonances, one each for the length, width, and height. A violin or acoustic guitar body also has multiple resonances. Does this help? --Ethan
