Aesthetically pleasing acoustical treatments

Does anyone know of acoustical treatments (panels, etc.) that are effective, but look more like classy decorations that belong in a nice (expensive?) house?

The application I have in mind is along the lines of using a room in a house the will double as a spare room/den and a place to record speech/voiceover tracks.

Thanks.

oh sorry I thought they had a US distributor, they were at the AES show, perhaps email them?

these guys make some good stuff too, but not quite as "designer" (judging purely from the website of each company)

and of course the two regulars on this board

You can buy Owens Corning 705 or 703, which is a really stiff compressed fiberglass. It comes in 4" thickness which is perfect for walls. Then you can buy fabric online (ebay) and wrap the panels. You can also go one further and build a wood frame around them. Mine look like they were pro built. I'll post a pic or two later.

RPG does panels in Guilford of Maine fabrics (as do others) which are available in a multitude of choices. They also make diffusors in a variety of nice hardwoods (cherry, mahogany, etc...I have some of the QRD 734 diffusors in cherry), but they aren't cheap. One cool product is: RPG Diffusor Systems IIRC, that is the product used in a very expensive home remodel for This Old House, the PBS show.

Several years ago the show This Old House was redoing a multi-million dollar home on the Massachusetts coast. The show used the highly regarded acoustician John Storyk (Walters-Storyk Design Group) to design a music room for the grand piano and a multimedia room for the family entertainment. Some of the treatment products he used then were made to blend into both the house and interior design. There is a bit of information here:

WSDG Architectural and Acoustic Design

There may be more on the "This Old House" website archive for the Manchester House episodes.

I have never heard of RT-60 before
this is what I got from google

I do need a program to run the midi It would be nice if it had a RTA

this project kinda got the wind knocked out of its sail's

because I needed a midi controller to do it right

I would love to build a room with something like this

but having the walls with the ability to adjust
to make a room live/dead at the click of a mouse

We do a ton of high end rooms. May it be HT rooms, 2 channel rooms and studios. Not sure what kind of style you are looking for, but this looks kind of cool I think

Responding to the thread, acousitic treatment can be efffectively hidden. All it takes is knowledge, and money.

No kidding. Here's Ethan's rule of attractive acoustic treatment:

Acoustic treatment can be effective, attractive, or affordable. Pick any two.

thanks for the kind words. Just walked into the employee bathroom to find water on the floor (leak), I look into the mirror and say "What next on a Monday". Then I read your comment. All is good now.

the behemoth pictured above is placed between my monitors
it changes the sound allot when the slats are changed

the slats used are standard casing

but I have some Ideas about using a thiner wood material backed with roofing paper or possibly rubber for the slats
to let more sound through with less filtering
and more blocking

in theory
just like people have a different sense of vision
people also have a different sense of hearing
people buy glasses to correct their vision

something you dont see in the audio world
is people correcting their sense of hearing

we dont all hear the same
