Vocal booth

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience recording (vocals, acoustic guitar, sax) in on of these booths? I'm wondering if the sound inside is good. Is it boxy sounding? How much does it isolate? I don't need it to be soundproof. I just need it to sound good inside, and to keep out a bit of ambient sound for outside the booth.

Thanks in advance,

Jay-Alan

That thing is hideous! lol
Dunno how it would sound, but it sure looks like a cumbersome waste of space.
Have you considered a portable alternative such as this?

Most small booths sound terrible unless they're well treated with plenty of bass trapping. If you don't need extreme isolation you'll do better to record in normal size room. If your control room is treated use that. Or use something like this:

[edit:] JamzOr, you beat me to it by 12 seconds. But I posted a photo!

Ah, the myth of the vocal booth. You should never record vocals in any room you can't lie down in.

I bought that many years ago, and immediately replaced the factory pickup at the rhythm position with a Gibson humbucker. So it has two pickups suitable for playing lead, and each has a unique and excellent sound. The pick guard also is not stock. Back then they came in white only, so my friend (and master craftsman) Phil Cramer made that pick guard for me.

As you know, I'm in the final throes of my next performance video and it features this guitar. Well, it features me playing this guitar. For your amusement, below is a frame from my video, which with luck will be done in another month or two.

I have yet to hear a vocal booth kit that sounded worth half a gold turd.
I completely agree on Ethans advice and buy or make a portable setup like he's suggesting if your short on cash. I have an obsession making my own bass traps/gobo's and after making two 4' by 6' tall gobo's for guitar amps/drums and a little vocal booth, it has made a major difference it cutting out the room sound and noise.
Highly recommend getting one.
