Acoustic panels

Hello people! I am building a rehearsal studio, and I'm trying to determine whether or not it would be more efficient to use the traditional 2x4 or 2x2 panels, or use 6" x 4' panels. I built the room from the ground up, and without analyzing it it's not bad... there's a little echo throughout and buildup in the corners, which will get of course get bass traps. I'm also not shooting for absolute perfect balance: this is primarily a rehearsal space that I will also record out of here and there, so I have a little tolerance. (I suppose I should expect tolerance if I'm doing it myself, I'm no acoustician!)

So, having read some threads here suggesting the two different patterns of wall panels, does anyone have a recommendation as to which works better for them, and in what situation? I would like to track drums mostly using the open space; I can isolate guitars and vox.

Thanks for your time!

6" x 4' (4 inches thick) spaced out about 4 to 6 inches apart from each other, in a room sounds AWSOME!! I just did that in my room and it really is cool. I don't think you need to do all the walls this way, but if you can do 1 or 2 you will really like it. In fact down the road I would like to make that a standard panel in our product line.

I am going to email Bryan, the guy who I work with to chime in. He is the one that come up with the idea.

That type of treatment is an exceptional value on the rear half of the side walls in and on the rear wall - depending on the situation. The rest of the room should be treated in a more 'normal' sense.

The 6" panels (if framed) will provide a nice mix of absorbtion and diffusion

Actually Bryan, I ended up putting a few on the wall right next to the drum set also. It does not diffuse the same way as the ones on the back wall, but still did a great job.
Thanks for chiming in. thumbsup
