Thread Starter | Where to place my acoustic panels?! Hey thanks in advance for any help. I am currently building 6 2'x4'x4" wall panels out of mineral wool (using this guide http://www.radford.edu/~shelm/acoustics/bass-traps.html). Below is an image with my dimensions and the places that I had in mind to place the traps. Is there any better configuration? At the moment I can only afford to build 6 but I plan on building a few more in the future. Thanks! Jordan |

| I would place one in each corner and one on each side at the first reflection points. I would recommend doing some searching on acoustic here. There have been many great discussion and website links that will help you out a ton. |

| Use 4 to go floor to ceiling in the front 2 corners. Use the other 2 behind/beside your monitors to deal with boundary issues. If that's not necessary (usually is), then you could temporarily use them in the rear corners. In a room that size you don't need 4" thick for reflection panels. 2" lighter density will be fine later on. Bryan

| Yes, see this: RealTraps - Placing RealTraps This page refers to my company's products, but all of the advice applies to your DIY traps too. --Ethan

Thread Starter | thanks for responding! Well I haven't built them yet, but from what I have estimated the whole deal will cost around $180 bucks. I had another question, what about if I built just like 4 4" thick panels and then built 4 2" panels. Would that make more sense for just reflections and then put the 4 4" ones in the corners and the other 4 on the sides of the walls and behind my mixing point? It would allow me more coverage of the entire room if you guys think I don't really need 6 4" panels. Any thoughts? Thanks again! Jordan |

| If you're limited by the amount of 703 you have, I personally think that 4 4" and 4 2" would be a more effective initial use of the material. If you need to use 2 of them for bass control or boundary control, you can always build the frames deeper to leave you a 1.5-2" air gap behind the 2" 703. Bryan |

| I would go with 4-4" and 4-2". use the 2" panels for first relfection points to the side of you and over your head. |

| Lives for gear | You should think about the bass a bit differently. All the sound isn't "going into" the corner pocket, what you are hearing is a peak caused by destructive interference and comb filtering. You are probably also hearing nulls elsewhere in the room, which has the same cause as the peaks. Solution is to try moving the subwoofer (for our advice on room setup see RealTraps - How To Set Up a Room ) and also get bass trapping in the room, especially in areas with big bass buildups such as your corner pocket. See these pages for more detail: RealTraps - Acoustic Basics RealTraps - Acoustics Fact & Fiction RealTraps - Filtered Noise

| Thanks for the professional advice!I s there anyway that building a false wall in front of that pocket will help and then adding bass traps? |
