Ok. We seem to have generally worn out the ukes thread. What kind of mandos are you guys using out there? You slutz from Nashville must see a lot of these. What is/are the house mandos at your studios? Here are mine: 1916 Gibson Style A 1955 Gibson Style F-12 Don't worry, I don't own any banjos. Yet.

I'll be in the minority on this one... I wanted a different sound that the traditional mando's just don't do - so I thought... I bought a Weber Absaroka with spruce top... very interesting but it sure can't pull off that old Gibson sound but it's very tempered sounding and pretty good for the paces I run it through... I also own 2 banjo's but they are two separate sad stories... |

my dad used a 1974 Gibson F5 but it's seems to be lacking in tone almost like it was overbuilt. He bought a Collins F5 3 years ago and has never been more happy. They make killer mando's Jason

It may sound stupid, but I've got one of those cutaway-style Ovation mandolins. I'm not usually an Ovation fan, but when I heard this thing I had to have it. It looks like a mini acoustic guitar and it doesn't have that traditional twang that you associate with the mandolin, but it has a very unique sound and sounds awesome for the strumming style that I use. Not high-end, but a beautiful sounding instrument IMO. |

I just picked up an early 50s A40. Sounds really great. I prefer the f-hole mandos. I'd love to get something like the little A12 or other scroll model. They're just so dang expensive these days. I'm sort of going through an acoustic phase where I'm wanting to get one of everything....National Resophonic, Gibson Mandolin, Banjo, etc.....maybe banjo is next on my list......now I gotta decide on which one....tenor? plectrum? 5 string? later, m |

I bought a Rigel A+ Dlx a couple of years ago and real happy with it. It's pretty bright even with J75's on it, but I am starting to tame it some with Peluso ribbon mic positioned a foot to 18" away from the sound hole. I used to use a M160, but it's just too bright. No condensers!! Bite yer head off! The neck is just right though, being radiused and 1 1/8" wide. Plays like butter. Rick |

just picked up a weber hyalite to add to my collection. the mahogany back and sides give it a mellower, more sustaining sound. also, picked up a weber bridger octave mando. maple back & sides. sounds wonderful. great instrument. bill |

Pohaku, This is unrelated to the topic but since you have no contact info I thought I'd give this a shot. In doing a search, I noticed you own a Gefell M582H. Can't seem to find much info anywhere. Would you be willing to answer a few questions I have about that mic? Thanks, JPM |

thanks for reviving this thread....I should add that I LOVE my Gibson A40 that I got last year. I've been playing it a lot lately. Unfortunately, my playing still hasn't progressed past two finger chords, but that's another story... m |

I have a Maurer which was handed down to my wife, and has been in Her family as long as She can remember. I've used it on recordings and sounds as clear as a bell. It's the round back type. It has some nice inlays.

Reviving this thread again, we just picked up an Old Hickory AC-100. Cheap as cheap can get, but for some reason I like this one. Hmm, time to play a little...

Thanks for bumping the thread... I've searched for mando threads before without much success. I currently have two mandos the first is a snakehead A5 style accoustic My dad made and the power and tone are amazing... it really packs a punch. My other is an Epi Mandobird VIII... currently stock, but have components ready for a tone injection, tho i may wait until i have another to play, asi have a few more mods in mind. ![]()

I play an Aida mandolin F-5 style (pic is close representative of mine). My first mando, stepping up from acoustic guitar. Loads of fun to play and sounds quite good too. |
