Pickguard opinions

I have an Alvarez FD50AMB. This is my second one, and sometimes, especially at jam sessions, I get overexcited, or someone uses my guitar and scrapes the finish. It got bad enough on my last one that the finish started to "bubble" (for lack of a better word) in a couple places. It happens a lot less than it used to. Anyway, they make adhesive pickguards and I'm wondering what the consensus would be on adding one. Has anyone used these? I'd be more interested if I could remove it eventually without harming the finish, but it'd be nice to have someone tell me that's possible. Opinions on how that would look, if it would affect my beautiful tone quality, removability, and utility? The guards cost like $5-7, so that's nothing. Thanks.
