Thread Starter | recording a SKA band's horn section
Fledgling recording engineer here, looking for some advice on recording a 3-piece horn section of a SKA band: trombone trumpet baritone sax available mics: rode nt2a shure SM57 beta shure SM94 shure SM81 (2) a slew of shure SM57 a slew of shure SM58 AKG D 112 (onbviously not) at this moment i'm thinking either (1) having them blow into the rode, SM57 beta and SM94 and using what sounds best, (2) individual mics on each of the instruments, (3) using the rode to catch them all plus individual mics. would love some advice and opinions. thanks |

Well, my first option would be using a blumlein array of ribbons plus a room mic, or something like this (blumlein + center mic): (whatch the pic of the Disney recording) Ribbon Microphone Stereo - Cascade X-15 But since it looks you have not access to ribbons, you could mic each instrument with one of your dinamics, which is a common practice in live music and use your LCD as a room mic. Hope it helps, Carlos
