Dark Strings for Acoustic Guitar?

You know, I just hate the new string zing. It takes days for that thing to go away (I know, I know...Play more! ).

It's just barely possible that I simply, sickly, like old strings on acoustic guitar, but before I start entertaining that hideous possibility, can anyone suggest a type of string for acoustic, or better yet a specific brand and species of strings that might give me a darkish tone to begin with?

I know a great old jazz guitarist who gets his strings specially made over in Jersey, rubber coated.

I'm not there yet. But who knows what might happen to me if the slutz don't help me out?

Whoa!!

I just caught the thread about the guy wanting strings shaded between the tones of EJ16s and MSP3100s!!!

You guys are HARD CORE down here!

I can see that my question was hopelessly vague.

I've tried the EJ16s. Still too bright.

Where are the stairs back up the main forums??

DR Strings, Vintage Bronze. Sound old when you put them on. I'm going back to Elixir...

Dude, just keep your old strings and don't trim them down. When you break one you should have a collection of worn outs to restring it with. Or maybe you have worn out all of your strings to the nub and you want to replace them all with slightly less worn out ones. I dunno.

I just tried a set of these new Red strings (high copper content). They're a little darker than the D'Addarios, but not dark enough for my taste either. Curious about the D'Addario Flat Tops though. Any more suggestions on this thread? I feel the same way as the OP, but sometimes strings do need changing.

The D'Addario flat tops are a great option, and unlike old, beat-up strings, they intonate reliably.

Actually, the only Vintage Bronze I can find now is GHS, but I could swear I got a set of DRs. Just don't remember which ones now...
