Awesome! Just imagine how good this kid's going to be if he keeps it up. What technique at such a young age. Almost weird seeing someone so young play like this!

I can honestly say with all my heart that with the exception of "Sunday Bloody Sunday", that is the first time i have enjoyed hearing U2. And i loved it.

So whos going to be first at this kids door with a record deal?

You should hear him play Rylynn by Andy McKee. I damn near shit myself when I saw how well he nailed it.

Beautiful, really. And as another slut here, I'm not a U2 fan at all (with all due respect for them, though).

I found it particularly moving to see him play with such maturity, while being smaller than his instrument. Oh boy...

But I wouldn't post my frankly useless comments on this if it hadn't brought up an old personal question I'd care to share. Here's what: I don't believe in talent. Don't flame now, I don't mean it as a truth to hold against other people's opinion... I simply believe this person - now a kid, but soon another full grown human being to walk the earth - is blessed with an exceptional will to learn and an incredible ability to focus his efforts on the right spot. That, to me, is MUCH MORE valuable than talent. He must know what to listen to, what to hope, what to imagine before he gets what he's looking for; he must know, and knowledge is not something you're born with. Being a kid, he must simply love it, simply being the key I guess. Whatever the drive to spend so many hours playing this huge instrument instead of fooling around with firecrackers, it has to be the time and fun he's put into playing that drove him there. Look at how he finishes the song...

What he's got that is so hard to get is not just the ability to work hard enough to play so well; it's probably the ability to be happy to do so. And again, I doubt this is something you're born with (hopefully). It's something that your entourage offers you if you're lucky, or that you get a harder way.

I don't intend to rise a fuss at all, I'm just wondering. What do you think?

What the heck do you think TALENT is?
It's all that stuff you posted, nothing else, now if you want to talk about an idiot savant with a math talent it's a different story, but playing ability, if you ain't born with it (no one is, not even this kid) you have to put in whatever work is required for you to play at the proficiency you desire to play at.
I've never worked with talent that didn't work very hard at learning their craft. Don't care to either

I won't use pitch correcting software. I use "coaching" maybe you've heard of it. It keeps working even when you don't have it on.

Totally agree. Yet a lot of people seem to believe in some being "gifted", and that's the part that always made me uncomfortable because 1) it sorta kills all kind of hope to get any better ("I don't have it") and 2) it's regularly put up as a lame excuse not to try harder. But that's just my experience.

I wouldn't let anyone deter you from improving yourself, there's no excuse for that other than no opportunity and even then, you have to create one.

This kid is going places. Good places. Makes me want to practice more and throw away my acoustic in equal measures.
