i hear what you are saying and how the breaths could annoy you or anyone else for that matter. but i just listened to it again (i mixed it in a hurry last night and didn't really listen well before i posted it) and i think (just me personally) that the breaths add something to the sound that i like.
i have always been one to experiment greatly with compression. i know the sound is not all that natural, but a bit of compressor pumping, when it's on just one track (like vocals) sort of makes me smile. but that's just for tracks like this one..... depending on the type of song i am doing i will have different wants and needs from a compressor; i posted an Elton John cover here earlier that used a very different style of compression.
anyway bottom line: you are correct that most people would probably be annoyed by the breathing and so if i were to really work on this track and if it were anything more than just a fun recording project done in my spare time, then i would definitely re-do the compression and manipulate the release settings to get a more *natural* sound.
thanks for listening! your input is sincerely appreciated!
cheers,
