I don't know the song to well but from what i remember it didn't sound like a sample , if it was it was played in by someone and sampled for effect to get the repeats and starts and stops ......

Also what i remember is not so much the sound, that can be replicated by a number of guitar choices , from pick-ups in neck position or semi-acoustic jazz style guitars , what i will say is that that way of playing is more a style ! A lot of those types of guitars are also straight to D.I./pre ..

Paul Jackson jnrs famous funcky pop was D.I.'d .....
