it´s the same as with other programs that can run as rewire slaves.
But you can select whether reaper should install rewire if you dislike this behaveior.
I´m not sure i agree with you with the auto arming, but hey i´m mostly an audio guy, so i do prefer it this way, which is the same as PT.
BTW. don´t let the price fool you.
