I am sure many of you can answer to this ...

I wonder sometimes if I should pay more attention to how something sounds when I am standing in front of it, or how it sounds when I get into the control room. Electric guitars, for instance, sound different when you are standing their versus through monitors. I use close mics paired or combined with room mics, too. Clearly we don't hear in stereo in the sense of two speakers, so which direction should the traslation occur?

Thoughts?
