I would go with an Echo Audiofire 12 and a Mackie 800r. I have that combo(along with some other higher end pres) and I think that will blow your current rig out of the water. The 800r, IMO, gets a really bad rap around here but I've found them to be very nice, clean pres with a nice DI. Very good all-purpose pres. Now there will be a stream of high-enders that will rip them but I believe them to be flat-out wrong.

As far as the Audiofire. I believe that to be the best sub-$1000 conversion available and beats even some of the way-more-expensive converters out there.
