TRACK INTO PROTOOLS OR JUST LET THE BEAT RUN OFF THE MACHINES?

Hey all, i was curious to know what are you guys beat making and recording process in the order of which you do things. do some of you make a beat, track the individual tracks into pro-tools the do all your editing before or after vocals are laid? or do you guys create beats and just run the beat off the machines(samplers,keyboards,etc..),have it all synced up,running through a board/console and let the artist go over that. im at a crossroad to where i like tracking my individual tracks into pro-tools,cutting and pasting but sometimes i like to change the drum pattern and things of that nature but its hard to get that vibe back after its been track and"go to bar 23 and create, say, snare rolls by moving audio around)"seems it works a lil quicker and better is the beat was still midi.
