No... not at all. Yes, phase tends to be a static thing. However, consider the instrument itself resonates in a room inherently out of phase. That's what's happening here. The recording itself has a fine phase coherency. Throughout the rest of the concert (and the rest of the piece for that matter) is fine. The one instrument is out of phase with itself in the way it rings in the room (the close mic displays none of these issues either).

I'm not terribly concerned about this- rather I thought it was a rather interesting phenomenon as I haven't had issues like this in the past.

I didn't have issues with the bowls- just the gongs and the biggest one at that. The smaller ones didn't cause anywhere near as much of an issue.
