I've never really used many FX pedals but I'm getting into it lately. Usually people record dry and mix in FX later and that's been what I do. Lately I want to try tracking with FX. So what are some cult pedals that you can't live without? I'm talking pedals so good that you MUST record it at the source and not just add FX later.

I'm particularly interested in pedals that ambient/post-rock bands use.
