yeah honestly the r121 is the way to go for guitar if you want to use ribbons, otherwise if you wanted to try a dynamic, I would give a mercenary 57 a shot.
I would like to know what amp you're using as well, cause in my experience i've never found a direct out from an amp that actually sounded good to me either.
