I don't have a great room either, so I make a fort for an amp out of bass traps and foam. Blankets and mattresses would work as well. A 57 or 421 works up close and I put a 414 a few feet back(still in the fort). I use this
MeldaProduction MAutoAlign, automatic microphone delay compensation to sync up the phase of the two mics. I highly recommend this plug. I use it on acc guits ,drum kits ect. Not perfect but-----good enough to make me a little lazy.............
