If that is the sound, I don't think Fender is where you ought to be looking.
Look at Marshalls. There was a period in the 1990's where their tone wasn't the greatest (JCM 900 ETC.), but they have this sorted on their newest line of amps.
Get this and be finished with it. It's a good versatile amp that will cover most everything you are looking to do:

There are some that will not agree, to them I say I have had these in my studio for the last 4-5 years many times, and can always get them to do what is needed, save get a authentic Fender sound.
They are NOT an AC30, and NOT a Fender, but as said, you can always make them work and find something that makes everyone happy. More than happy actually.
Get that and a good cab with new speakers, or a combo, and be done with the madness.
Trust me, this thing will do from Bryan Adams, to freaking White Zombie. It will even approximate an old 70's classic rock tone when required fairly well.
There's a reason Marshall has been in the biz for 50 years.
They work.
FWIW, I have some 15 amps here. In recent years, I have come to the conclusion I could narrow it down to this amp and two others if I needed to, and have all I need.
One last thing, stay AWAY from Valvestates, their amp with the modeller and ipod/mp3 input etc. What you want is their newest top range of tube amplifiers.
Huge difference between these and 10-15 years ago.
Good luck,
john
PS: If you really feel the need to spend a lot of money, and want to go this direction in tone, I can see looking at Bogner as a somewhat "nicer" alternative. Very versatile, slightly more refined, different mids, extremely smooth and ballsy at the same time. Or for that matter Fuchs too.
