Hmm I think though that the operative word here is 'probably'... I am pretty sure if you asked RME babyface users they would argue that the babyface fills that bill just as well.
It's horses for courses, really... the apogee has 'that sound' (a little hyped in the highs, if you ask me), whereas I have found the babyface to be more transparent. As always, YMMV...
