both.
and the user area has tons of presets you can download and tweek. the sound is rally solid and inyour face real. its tunable.
you can also automate any parameter to make some cool stuff. like breaks chainging pitch, snares making melodies.
and its really inexpensicve for all the stuff u can do with it.
after you created or tweeked the sound u can export it to use with your akai/battery.
also has pattern seq.
