For what it is i think the 1640i is a great product and the conversion isn't shabby but I have built up a collection of good pre's. 1073 reissues and 312's. I have a couple of nice mics and some more on the way and I feel like the mackie is the weakest link in the chain right now. I want to get the most out of my money and if running my mics & pre's through better converters is going to give me a significant lift I'm in. + it looks better on the equipment list. Not many labels want to send their artist/artists off to get tracked on a mackie.

The way i understood it is that the differential between the high end converters was questionable when you compare the $$$ of prism to lynx, but I was assuming that going up to something in the quality bracket of the aurora would give me a boost from the 1640i?
