is there any type of hi pass filter I could use with a particular setting that would most likely reduce anything typically unwanted or un-flattering to most playback systems? * without having negative effects to the rest of spectrum?

side-note- what about hi pass filtering everything at 20khz?
Hi pass at 300 Hz and low pass at 4000 Hz, so your tracks will be telephone ready ;-))
PS: Keep them mono also...
