Hi Adam.....

It's definitely one of the early Tiawanese-made kits.
I believe it is in fact a mahogany shell. At least that's what Gretsch said in their marketing blurb. (There are different kinds on mahogany- the type used for 60's Ludwig kits and the like is much darker)
The earlier poster is correct about the badge.
The line was called the Catalina Stage series (there was also a Catalina Elite, and a Renown Maple range at the same time all with the same badge, but different features.)

This kit was the entry level kit which Gretsch released around 2000. Note the lack of die-cast hoops, and the non-matching bass drum hoops.

It was discontinued a couple of years after it came out, and replaced by the current kit called simply 'Catalina'

If it sounds good, and you got a good price then that's cool!!

BTW that DAC-1 rules..... thanks man!!
