In my time participating in this forum, it has been my observation that strong opinions are welcome contributions. However, a vital factor in generating 'controversy' is the language in which they are couched.

OK, this is not a learned society where discussions are always dispassionately presented in the passive voice. But in my view, it helps because it focuses on the idea, not the person.
