| Live Clip On Wired Trumpet Mic – Recommendations?
I know this has been discussed a number of times before, but the threads are fairly old and don’t really deal with the issues I have.
I play cornet in a physically active brass section for a Carnival Punk band. I need a decent clip on mic, but one that’s not going to break the bank. I’d love to be wireless but I simply can’t afford it, so I’m going to have to stick with the wired options.
With this in mind, and armed with very little knowledge, I recently bought a Beyerdynamic Opus 82 18/3 for £115. Once it got here, I found that it needs phantom power, and that I also need to buy a CV 18 pre-amp at a cost of £50.
Now, my questions are;
1. Should I just pay the £50 for the pre-amp? Is the Opus 82 worth it?
2. Or should I send the Opus back and get another mic? If so, what mic should I get?
My requirements for a new mic would be;
- MUST be a clip on mic
- Relatively cheap (£150 max)
- Can be connected to an ordinary 3 pin XLR cable, either directly or through a belt pack (but it has to be included in the price of less than £150)
What do you think? Should I pay up, or should I send it back?
