their voices don't sound similar to me... as a default i'd put lennon in front of a 47 with an am16 into a sta-level and joel in front of a 67 with an rca tube into an la2a.

i'm one of 'those guys', the ones who think the pre has a bigger tonal footprint than the mic. the mic is the 'sound', the pre is the 'tone', the compressor is the 'spit', the eq is the 'polish'.

crazy ideas in my head...
