there are many places representing talent online, listen to a few demos and you'll discover that they run about a minute on average, playing power cards and demonstrating as much range as possible right out of the gate - producers know in the first 3 seconds if a voice is right for whatever it is they're casting - get someone to listen for 15 seconds and you're on the short list. smoking to improve your voice doesn't make sense. singing and acting does.
