That is probably an early 2000s import from taiwann. when they first started importing them, they had those badges on them. The american Gretsch guys got mad because people might mistake them for the American Gretsch's, so they had to change them. Thus the new Renown import kit says Renown on the badge.

I have a mini kit that they custom made for me (Gretsch) and the inside of the shells are unfinished like that one. They are maple on my kit, and look like they could be maple on that kit as well. Those are the Rims system they use on the import drums, as well as the bass drum mount. So the only question is whether or not those shells are maple.

Either way they will KIIIIIIILL your ludwig rockers. I love the Gretsh renown kits, most of the time even more than the american ones. Engineers consistently flip on them. That does look like a thick wrap though, that might be a tone killer.
