It costs a crapload of money to tour the kind of show she does. In fact there's a distinct possibility that her tours could be a loss leader for Disney.
I'm glad you think Built To Spill are amazing live. How often do you think you'll get a chance to see them if things continue as they have been?
That's a very arrogant statement. Many of these artists are very much acts that have a base that would be willing to pay - except that the figures don't add up. Historically bands tour to support and promote the record. They don't record to promote the tour. That's putting the cart before the horse.
Most opening acts on name tours have to pay to get on the tour. They don't get paid - they pay. And that's before all the expenses. |
I don't know enough about Miley Cirus tours to confirm or deny what you're suggesting, but you may be right. Her tour may just be one big ad/branding project for Disney and that Miley Cirus's model is to use her music celebrity to sell other things - like all of the Miley Cirus and Hanah Montana branded products or TV shows that generate ad revenue.
In that cases, everyone involved can make a profit regardless of whether her records sell. The records and her show are solely brand building.
It's really no different for any other artist except for the choice in how to view it.
