Yeah, you should have included this info in your original post to make your point.
Now I would hope the guy that fixed it went back and told the others what he did to fix it. THAT is a big part of how people get better. They don't need to spend another 20 years wasting customers' time to figure out how to do it.
I'd also bet that if the better skilled guy had been taking his kid along with him on jobs that kid could know a lot about how to repair refrigerators by the time he was 12.
The main thing I gather from your post is that these people are poorly trained. Do you really think they shouldn't have learned how to fix that in 5-10 years?! As I stated above, one of the best remedies would be for trhe better guy to share some knowledge.
