You need to be more specific--what kind of music and what job(s) do you do? But without even knowing, I can tell you unless 1. You are better at what you do than people on the radio AND better at, "networking," than Madonna at 18, 2. know people (sounds like you don't) and 3. Have a good amount of disposable income, don't do it. In LA (and I'm sure Nashville), there's people doing everything for free, so if you plan on doing whatever it is you do for a living, don't.

If, however, you don't need to make money, the weather in LA is mostly very nice.

And of course, don't let anyone discourage you from doing what you must do, but these cities are marvelous dreamcrushers to the undertalented, underlucky, and underprepared. You can do music from anywhere via the internet, including most jobs...

Edit: I'll amend that: if you have enough money to go to audio school and pay your rent for a year after while you intern somewhere, and are amazing, maybe you would have a shot. I don't primarily engineer. Then again, I also know of great engineers working at major labels for $11/hr...
