| drum machine as bass module trigger?
Hey Y'all. This is my first post, I have been lurking here for some time reading what I can about midi and what not. Ive been playing guitar and drums my whole life mainly blues/rock and it's long list of genre offshoots, but last year got heavy into EDM as a last minute fill in turned full time drummer of a livetronica group. the music was fun but one person (band leader) was a complete s#*t, recently he kicked everyone out of the group until it was just me and him. and I lasted about another month before shit hit the fan again. So now here I am with all this untz built up inside me and all I want is a BOB (battery operated bassist,) it shouldn't be hard to figure out a solution seeing as on top of being a real s#*t he was also a poor excuse for a bass player. Okay venting aside, I have been buying some different gear really whatever I find for a good deal/used... I have this drum machine, an alesis SR-16 and I was wondering if there was a way to use it to trigger a midi bass module, if it could that would be nice because of it's foot controller capabilities, I could pre-program a set of music and advance to the next bass line when I feel the groove on the drum set and it's variations are getting tired/boring to the audience. would this work? or do I need more of a sequencer than a cheap drum machine. what other non computer options do I have trying to build a small rack and I don't want to lug my desktop around. if I had endless funds I would just buy a laptop but that will take a while, and I can always re purpose or sell the gear that would replace in the future. thoughts? comments? thanks in advance and hello all.
