protools mixdown reel to reel help

I was wondering if anyone would know any steps to prepare a mixdown out of Pro Tools to be sent to a Reel to Reel, the goal im trying to achieve is to beefen up my mix with some analog sound and that natural tape compression, hamronics, etc. Even though I make a decent sounding mix it sounds too muddy and almost distant once I play it back on the Reel to Reel. Im sending all my outputs in PT's to an outboard mixer and then using the tape outs into my Reel to Reel. It is a consumer deck but old tapes I have sound like vinyl, its just my mixes that I record to the Reel to Reel that lack the quality I want. Ive tried EQ'ing and limiting on the master fader in PT, but there's just something I have to be missing. If its helps im using BASF 7" LP - 35 tape and my Reel is a Sansui SD 5000.
