The standard valves are quite smooth on break up with The stock 12 au7 and 12ax7 combo. If you found a NOS RCA 12au7 and an old Yellow label British Mullard equivalent ECC83 for the 12ax7 I think it would be a bit more warm and
more dominant of low mid but the RCA should make it pass some smooth air top.
Best combo I think removes any harshness. Pity you dont have whats on my avatar. Jealous huh, thats three fat JAN 6J7 steel envelope pentodes in class A with a tube rectumfire, Huge UL transformers. Oh and a dead funky Western Meter. Music just squirts out of the output. As you may have guessed I am a tube nut.
