This is my first attempt at a full length album as a producer/engineer/ME. We spent about the better part of the last year doing this album. And even lost everything once due to my HDD crashing...
Well a lot of time and effort went into this album and really I want these mixes to compete with things out on the radio. I know that this is impossible and that i'm not nearly talented enough nor do i have the experience, wisdom and equipment that some of these incredible engineers have. But I would sure like to get close.
With that said,
My problem is, i really seem to be losing the dynamics and the 3D effect of my masters.
Things just seem to be smushing together rather than breathing on their own. I really pushed my L2 to bring up the volume of the tracks. The "Volume" feels good. but at certain parts there is distortion. so i spent some time trying to clean that up. But i still feel like things arent as "Alive" as before. Nothing really stands out quite the way i want it to. And I just feel like the mix feels messy.
If you guys could give me some advice. I'm wondering if this problem is coming from my multipress or EQ? or should i be adding something into the mastering channel?
I'd love for you guys to listen and give me some advice of what you would do. I didnt have the luxury of attending Engineering School and I really had to learn the hard way of how to mix/record and etc. I dont get insulted easily so feel free to point out any dumb mistakes i may be making in my mixes.
