But thats not me, still I do understand your situation.
Rooms that are not designed from the start for acoustics are always a compromise.
That said put the panels on the walls at the first reflection points thickerbass panels in corners.
You might buy a small bamboo.rug to put on your carpet to bring some natural reflection back under mic.stands.
Try it out see if you can combine.form and function with obvious wall placement
Remember you cant get too precise in a non purpose built space but will still see some advantage
