I think this reflects a paucity of ideas in film (music) rather than some kind of hegemonic synth/sampler technology. Film makers running close to each other to ensure no one gets too far away. Plink plonking pianos, pseudo orchestral swooshes and eerie pads. It has become so obvious that some smarty has developed a program that will automatically score your film for you- just type in mood, context etc
