Shure 315 has been a staple in our studio for a few years, mainly on drums - in front, or on top of... amazing vibe, quite dark and smokey.
a bit less detailed than new ribbons, using a SE Neve ribbon the other day, but still preferred the Shure 315 in front of the kit.
bought it to record horns, but it didn't do it for us there - Gabe Roth of Daptone uses them infront of a horn section. I prefer a newer ribbon there - Royer or SE Neve, more detail on the top...
but at about half of the cost of the aforementioned, it's a really good mic, if you can find them in original condition!
