well this guy who has it is kind of clueless, he did'nt even know to pronounce NEVE "nehveee" he said. he knows that it is worth alot but not how much. he is also a friend and i would want to pay a fair price, but at the same time i would rather pay a "lower end" fair price. $4000 maybe?

Focusrite Blue 230

do you own or have you used an STC-8? how does it compare to the NEVE or the Focusrite?

i am looking for something to put on the 2 bus. i do kind of like the idea of some warmth along with the comp/limeting. [i use a PTHD DAW with a HEDD for my main AD/DA]
Back in the day I think I owned STC-8 serial number 3 or 4?

Back then I owned a commercial studio also and all the freelancers had the hardest time figuring it out, so I got rid of it.

I did get to use it a bunch of times and I thought it was nice, but at the time i liked other things more(Neve 33609 for eg. Since then in using it at different studios I have kinda grown used to it. If I need transparent compression on the 2 buss, its what I reach for. Its funny though, these says I am so into transparent compression when tracking vocals(most of the time I don't use any), that you would think I would dig it, but i much prefer the GML comp or the Sontec comp for this purpose. They seem to caress the vocal "o so" slightly, that it just seems more pleasant to my ears.

By the way I've owned all of the big (3) Neve compressors: Neve 2254E,32264a and the 33609. A couple of years ago I got rid of my 33609(they are a staple alot of the studios here in the city). To me the most versatile is the 32264a and the most colored is the 2254E. But the 33609 is the only one I would use on a 2 buss.

They are cool.
